March 2010 - Racetrack Upgrades and Maintenance

Mar 13-14

im a new member and i would like to help with the kamikaze track upgrades. i have all the tools a man would ever need. im very strong (steel worker) and handy. i have an ofna mbx-r2 with a new rb-s3 and its not much fun when all you have to race on is sand piles and public parks. i would like to be a part of this.

I'm not track director or anything. Marc Ilton is in charge, I'm just a worker.
On that note, we are a bit behind the gun on this one as the mobile welder was busy on Saturday and I was busy on Sunday. So the plan for Saturday, Mar 27 is to weld 2 parts of the railing in the morning and then get the deck pushing into place so we can start laying the deck and get the stairs cut as well as level the container and replace 1 of the paving stones (going to buy a new one today). The big O needs to be removed from the track and new stuff put in place. Not sure how much more work got done after I left on saturday but there was still some raking and cleanup that needed to be done. If all goes well, I would like to see the actual track ready to race by the end of this weekend so that it has time to settle before race day. Then I would like the container to be ready to measure out for the rest of the railing by the end of the weekend too. Then the following weekend will be finish the railing, clean everything up, maybe lay down some paint and that will be it. There are other medial tasks like pealing the stickers off of the can that need to be done as well.
In a nutshell, show up on the weekend, I can keep you busy.

Feel free to show up and work this weekend. I will be there for Saturday early morning to get the railing welded on. Bring cordless drills and #2 robertson bits if you have them as the deck can get attached (mostly) after the railing is up. The track is ok, could use some more love but people dont seem to be able to stop walking on the soft spots and if they do, they dont fix them so it might be best to limit the amount of time on the track. There is also the stickers to peel off the Container, bring a scraper and a propane torch if you have one.

Looks like this coming easter weekend is going to be a big work day at the track. The big push to get the track ready for the season opener the weekend after. Everyone come out this weeked with tools in hand, shovels, rakes, picks, whatever you have. If you don't have anything come out anyway since the club has some tools yo can use. We need to finish the new driver stand and work the track surface over.

You can sign up as new member or renew your 2010 membership. Then get a facility use card from the Pinetree community center beside Kwantlen college. The facility use card is free. It's how the City tracks usage of the track.

The track is beat up. There are pot holes and ruts all over. We need to organize a WORK PARTY. I'm in any saturday afternoons and all day sunday?
